Freedom and opportunity for all - does our country still support that?

FREEDOMS AT STAKE:
I know I don't have to tell you, but this next election is critical. Last night I watched the Republican debate, and I also watched Donald Trump's speech in Michigan.
I can tell you that all eight people running in the Republican Party are a breath of fresh air compared to the oppressive and failing regime that we are living under right now. The current administration doesn't seem to care about our country. Just in the month of September this year, CBS News reports that nearly 1/4 of a million people will GET CAUGHT illegally crossing our southern border. How many aren't getting caught? (1)
Things must change and so many other things must change, but let me focus on one key item right now: our freedoms.
It started innocently enough with "minor" restrictions. In one example, the government took away our right to choose incandescent light bulbs for what was supposed to save us money, make our lives better, and save the environment.
The problem: they lied to us either intentionally or unintentionally. They told us that with about 10 hours of use each day, an LED bulb would last about 13 years, and that claim is still on many of the packages.
I don't know about you, but I keep track. The bulb on the right is one I recently had to replace, and I was really happy that it made 5 years. Most last about 2 years. The promised cost savings for the length of life does not happen. Also, I just replaced one that flashed on and off in our kitchen - how irritating.
We could argue which is the better option: incandescent, fluorescent spiral bulbs(which the government encouraged us all to use until they said we shouldn't use them anymore), Halogen, or LEDs. That is not the point. The POINT IS WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHOOSE THE LIGHT BULB WE WANT.
And, by the way, who makes the vast majority of LED bulbs? Whereas incandescent bulbs were manufactured right here in our county, most LED bulbs come from China. "Most of the world's LED lamp production occurs in China. By value, 94% of all LED lamp imports to the United States were manufactured in China in 2019." (2)
The government should not impose what we can and cannot buy; let the products prove themselves, and let the people decide. Republicans support the free-market choice of the individuals believing we know best for our specific condition, not the government.
We support school choice, where the money follows the child. In public schools, we support opt-out options for curriculum that is controversial and violates many families' religious beliefs.
We support energy freedom and choice in how we heat our homes. If Democrats are elected in 2024, how long do you think it will be until there is a nationwide ban on natural gas stove, natural gas heating, dryers, outdoor grills, etc.
Now, they want to ban gasoline-powered cars and trucks, and President Biden is mandating that over 50% of the cars sold be electric by 2030, just 7 years away. Maryland Democrats have followed California's 2035 ban for all gas powered cars and trucks. This cannot stand.
Last night President Trump said it well when he spoke to workers in Michigan where many are part of the UAW strike. He indicated that it may not matter what the strikers' salaries will be, because with Biden's EV Mandates, 40% of all US auto jobs will disappear. If more jobs go to China, we could lose our automobile industry almost in its entirety.
We should be able to choose our next vehicle, and we should keep our jobs here.

The freedoms I wrote about here have huge ramifications, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. If we want to have a free country, we are going to have to work for it. We are going to have to vote and encourage others to vote the right way.
Ronald Reagan indicated that, "“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
This has never been more true in our lifetimes than right now. I am optimistic that we can win this next election not only nationally, but right here in Maryland's Congressional District 6.
