Government gave €300,000 of taxpayers’ money to Planned Parenthood in 2022
A parliamentary question asked by Alan Dillon TD on 20 September 2023 has revealed that the department of foreign affairs has forked out €300,000 of taxpayers’ money to the pro-abortion International Planned Parenthood Federation in 2020.

Planned Parenthood is a fervently pro-abortion NGO based in the United States which has aggressively pushed for extreme abortion policies globally. The minister for foreign affairs and Tánaiste, Micheál Martin, also spoke in the Dáil on 28 September about how the Irish government works with the Clinton Foundation towards furthering “women’s reproductive rights”, which is a mealy-mouth way of talking about abortion.

Despite lavishly funding the already incredibly wealthy Planned Parenthood Foundation, the Irish government cannot seem to find the funds to support women in unplanned pregnancies with positive alternatives to abortion. It is clearly a question of what the government prioritises and what it does not.

Serious questions need to be raised about the reckless spending of the Irish state on well-heeled NGOs which promote extreme pro-abortion policies. This has been particularly evident in African nations, where the US and other Western Powers have adopted a policy of offering “foreign aid” in exchange for a liberalisation of these respective countries’ abortion policies. A strong opponent to this neo-colonial interference has been Obianuju Ekeocha of Culture of Life Africa, who will be speaking at the PLC’s National Conference in October.

Woman dies from sepsis caused by abortion pills
Caption: Alyona Dixon pictured with her son a few months before she died
A Nevada woman has died after developing sepsis soon after taking the abortion pill mifepristone.

Within days of taking the pill, Alyona Dixon, 24, complained of “sharp” lower abdominal pain and sought help at a Planned Parenthood clinic for the medically induced abortion. Her family is now suing the Las Vegas centre that treated her, saying it did not provide adequate medical care for the abortion complications.

The lawsuit states that after a few tests — notably without a pelvic exam or a consultation with a gynaecologist — Dixon was discharged without receiving the appropriate care.

She was subsequently rushed to the emergency room of her local hospital where the doctor recorded that she presented with “abdominal pain, “sepsis” and “acute renal failure”.

According to her attorney, her condition quickly deteriorated and she died not long afterwards. Dixon already had a child previously and was eight weeks pregnant.

Her tragic story follows reports from earlier this year about a woman in Canada who also died after developing sepsis soon after taking the abortion pill. And there have been a number of other similar reports in recent years, particularly in North America, about other women who also died from complications after taking the abortion pill.

One thing you’ll notice if you regularly follow the news is the lack of media curiosity or interest in stories about women who suffer the adverse after effects of abortion, including women who lose their lives from abortion along with their babies.

The media afforded round the clock coverage for months in 2012 to the Savita Halappanavar case, all with the single goal of legalising abortion in Ireland. When it was shown afterwards that she died from mismanaged sepsis and not from the lack of access to abortion in Ireland at the time, the media simply looked the other way. These are the same journalists who lecture us morning, noon and night about the proliferation of “misinformation” in society and the need for it to be tackled. Their proposed solution to the problem however usually revolves around calls for the censorship of outlets and individuals who challenge their hold on the dissemination of information to the public.

Register Today for PLC National Conference 2023!
Our annual National Conference this year will take place on Saturday, 14th October 2023 in the RDS Concert Hall, Dublin 4.

The main theme of the conference is 'Growing the Pro-Life vote, Bringing about change at election time' and underlines our focus on getting more public representatives elected who will speak up courageously for human rights, for the right to life of unborn children and for care and support for women in unplanned pregnancy.

The keynote speaker for the National Conference is Obianuju Ekeocha.

Obianuju Ekeocha is a highly respected and well known pro-life advocate on the international stage. She has 135,000 followers on Twitter (X), which gives an indication of the reach and impact she is having. She is the founder of Culture of Life Africa, an initiative dedicated to improving maternal healthcare services for women, while fighting against Western governments who commit vast sums of money for abortion and population control in African countries - something she appropriately describes as "ideological colonisation".

Seating for the event is limited - so don’t delay, register today below to attend the conference!

Stay tuned for updates on speakers in the coming weeks but for now, click below to register. See you there!

Humanity Campaign - Action alert!
With the Oireachtas returning, it presents a perfect opportunity to approach your local TDs and Senators and urge them to reintroduce some humanity into the debate on abortion. The Three-Year Review, a seriously flawed process which produced a one-sided and extreme report, will be considered by politicians in the autumn. It’s important that we take action now.

We have produced a quick and easy Virtual Postcard for you to sign, which will automatically send an email to your local TDs. Use the button below to navigate into your county on our website and find your constituency.

It’s also important to have meetings with your TDs. These can be as simple as dropping into your local TD’s advice clinic to outline your concerns. Click below to register to lobby your local TDs. Don’t worry – we’ll help you every step of the way with advice on making the appointment to points you might consider raising.

We are heartened by the number of people actively involved and interested in meeting their politicians to express their views. The People Before Profit Bill which regrettably passed at 2nd stage of the Dáil on 31st May must also be countered. Even the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, has said this Bill goes far beyond the recommendations of the Three-Year Review – which are already extreme in their own right.

It is crucial to engage with our politicians and remind them not to overlook the referendum promises. We need to fight to ensure our abortion policy is aimed at reducing the abortion rate.

Please take a moment to get involved in the
Humanity Campaign.  Remember even the smallest effort will make a big difference.

Thank you!

Do you have pro-life material which could be historically relevant?
We are putting out a call for anyone in possession of any documents, photographs, correspondence, etc. relevant to the Irish pro-life movement throughout the decades. We are particularly keen to receive anything in your possession related to periods such as the 1983 referendum. A comprehensive history of the pro-life movement is yet to be written, but the historians of the future will need primary sources. We are asking for people to get in touch with the Pro Life Campaign if they possess such material (no matter how old or dusty!) to ensure it is preserved now and not lost to the ages.
