Please take our one-click poll!
Dear John,
Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is telling his fellow Republican Representatives that he won't allow a vote on the Senate-passed temporary funding measure (called a "Continuing Resolution," or "CR"). That's because the Senate's funding measure does NOT contain anything to address the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. You did that, John. You and other NumbersUSA activists have made border security the issue that Congress can't ignore. And you've helped us spread the word to other voters. A new Rasmussen poll found that, by a 2-1 ratio, Americans support including border security in negotiations for a new spending bill (the Continuing Resolution)... including half of Democrats! There certainly are other issues, as you would expect with a Continuing Resolution that would fund the government, even if only for a brief while. But for McCarthy and the other House GOP leaders, ignoring the border makes the Senate bill a non-starter. The only issue we take a stance on is immigration. Senators are trying to force the House to drop border security from the spending bill, threatening to shut down the government unless the House gives in and ignores the border crisis. Giving in would be a tragedy for this country. BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK, John? We want to know your opinion on this extremely important question. Just press the red or green button above to cast your vote. John, it's going to take lawmakers from BOTH parties to get any substantive legislation passed. We've been fighting for so long to block bad bipartisan bills. It feels like such a victory to have leaders from EITHER party willing to fight for a good bill. Thank you for your help. But we can't stop now. We need support from BOTH parties in Washington to allow border security to pass. Attaching it to "must-pass" legislation like a continuing resolution will help pressure them to be reasonable on this issue. Your opinion matters to us! So please answer the poll question above. Then, if you can, help make sure we have the resources to continue our efforts, and please donate.
