IT'S NOT OKAY.
Friend,
Our U.S. borders have become a free-for-all, with thousands of migrants crossing illegally every single day. While immigration reform is a bipartisan priority and important, weak enforcement of current laws and the surge in illegal border crossings and lawlessness has created a crisis at our borders.

The crisis is a consequence of policy choices, not some irreversible and irresistible force.

The record-breaking influx has overwhelmed and exhausted border agents and cities alike. According to The New York Times, migrants are coming from Africa, South America, and Asia.

I live in New York City, and our politicians are housing hundreds of thousands of migrants here illegally in an already overcrowded metropolis. These migrants are simply bussed to hotels and left to their own devices. Additionally, Mayor Eric Adams has begun putting them in schools and requesting people shelter them in their homes. Naturally, NYC residents don’t want migrants sheltered in places where they have invested time and tax dollars. This has resulted in an understandable and massive outcry from residents.

Migrants legally can’t get jobs or apply for housing, and this leaves them at a loss. Unfortunately, many migrants ([link removed]) undertake the perilous journey with the hope of a better life but find themselves at the mercy of human traffickers, facing abuse, exploitation, and life-threatening conditions.

Immigration and border control aren’t just political issues: they are economic, national security, and public health issues.

It is crucial to get a handle on this crisis, protect our border, and enforce our border policies and immigration laws. Overcrowding cities across the country and financially straining Americans isn’t going to solve the border crisis. Neither is leaving hundreds of thousands of migrants helpless in a foreign country.
The answer lies in the balance. While America has remained a beacon of hope for many seeking a better life, we must maintain balance, control, and process when it comes to welcoming immigrants legally. And because the Biden administration has acted in the extreme by further opening our porous borders, it is important that we push to keep that balance.
