Political infighting in Washington has pushed our nation to the brink of a government shutdown. MAGA Republicans are pushing for spending cuts – but their failure to compromise could have disastrous consequences for millions of Americans.
Here's what's at stake if they can’t reach an agreement:
- A government shutdown would force approximately 1.3 million dedicated service members to serve without pay, putting a burden on them and their families.
- Low-income families who rely on SNAP food benefits would face uncertainty and risk going without the essential nutrition they need to survive.
- WIC benefits, a lifeline for mothers and children, would be at risk, leaving vulnerable families without the support they need.
This is not the America we believe in. It's unacceptable for our elected officials to put partisan politics ahead of the well-being of the American people.
