We watched the second Republican debate last night, and just like you were probably thinking, it was a personality contest of washed-up and deeply unserious people totally unconcerned with the needs of rural Americans and rural communities.

Oh sure, we saw the usual low-quality, TV sound bite material:

- Ron DeSantis blamed Kamala Harris for him saying that slaves in the United States actually benefited from their own enslavement.
- Chris Christie attacked schoolteachers again while making a crude comment about long-time educator First Lady Jill Biden.
- Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy argued about TikTok and who's on which social media platform.
- And Tim Scott actually claimed it was easier for black Americans to survive slavery than to live with programs like Medicare and Medicaid passed under Lyndon B. Johnson.

But what was noticeably absent from the 90 minute primetime debate?

- Answers on how to lower the cost of food, gasoline, and everyday essentials for working families.
- Plans to make access to high-quality health care easier, faster, and cheaper in rural communities.
- The impact on rural seniors and veterans if Republicans force a government shutdown at the end of this week.
- Solutions for young families to afford child care while they're at work every single day.

Today's Republicans are so out of touch that they simply do not have any sense of how to support farmers or small business owners or rural working families — and worse — they don't seem to care, either.

That's why One Country Project is here – because we are not letting these presidential candidates get away with having zero plans for rural infrastructure and development, for our farmers and ranchers, and for our rural families just trying to make ends meet.

If you're able to pitch in $3 before our big federal fundraising deadline this Saturday, you're helping to make sure we can hold each one of these candidates accountable for their inaction in rural America. [[link removed]]

No matter your state, your zip code, or your distance to the nearest town — rural folks deserve the same high-quality infrastructure, health care, child care, and services for seniors and veterans that you expect anywhere else in this country.

We're not going to stop calling out these candidates and elected officials until we get a real, comprehensive plan to address what rural folks are dealing with every single day. And based on how much yelling happened last night, it's going to take a whole lot of us to be heard over their bickering.

Join us and let's fight to put rural America at the forefront of national politics again. [[link removed]]

Thank you for your support,

Tessa
