John, I’m reaching out today with exciting news. I’m endorsing Dr. Brian Williams for Congress!

I know Dr. Brian Williams personally, and though he has maybe the most impressive resume you can imagine – a veteran, trauma surgeon and a policy expert – he’s just as good a person. And he’s not only a friend, but he was an important member of my team during our fight to break the gun lobby’s grip on Congress.

He served as a gun safety advocate and health policy advisor in my office and was by my side when we passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act last summer, the most significant gun safety legislation in three decades.

Like so many Americans, for Dr. Williams, gun violence is personal. Working in the country’s operating rooms, he treated the never-ending flow of victims of gun violence, and he has had to tell far too many parents that their children had died from gun violence.

After a shooting in Dallas in 2016, he became the only surgeon in history to operate on multiple on-duty police officers victimized in a mass shooting. Ever since that night, he’s advocated for gun safety and an end to the epidemic of gun violence.

Real change is possible when we have leaders with the courage to act — and as a veteran, trauma surgeon, and gun safety advocate, that’s exactly what Dr. Williams will do in Congress.
