During Thursday's House impeachment inquiry hearing, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) appeared to become agitated and accused Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) of presenting "fabricated" text messages from Hunter Biden that suggest serious allegations.
Rep. Donalds (R-FL) revealed a series of text messages exchanged between Hunter and other members of the Biden family, implying questionable business dealings aimed at protecting President Joe Biden.
The impeachment hearing started earlier today with a text exchange between Jim Biden and Hunter Biden. Donalds read aloud, "In this text message it clearly says, 'Anyway, we can talk later, but you've been drawn into something purely for the purpose of protecting 'dad.'"
AOC's assertion of an altered text appeared to be an attempt to shift the narrative during a heated discussion on the legitimacy of the impeachment inquiry. The drama escalated when AOC strongly claimed that the displayed image of text messages from Hunter Biden was not the "actual direct screenshot" but a fabricated one.
"I don't know where it came from. I don't know if it was the staff of the committee, but it was not the actual direct screenshot from that phone," she asserted.
It is customary for committees to use graphics highlighting specific portions of evidence so that viewers can read the text.
Ocasio-Cortez emphasized the importance of relying on "bona fide" words from the witnesses present, seemingly trying to discredit the information presented by Rep. Donalds. However, her claim of fabrication and her plea to submit what she considered the authentic exchange did little to overshadow the serious questions being raised about the Biden family's alleged illicit dealings.
The scrutiny didn't end there. A subsequent text between Hunter and Naomi Biden was brought to light. Donalds elaborated on the text where Hunter expresses frustration about financially supporting the family for 30 years.
Hunter had stated, "I hope you all do what I did and pay for everything for this entire family for 30 years. It's really hard. But don't worry. Unlike pop, I won't make you give me half your salary."
The President has consistently denied allegations of his involvement in foreign business transactions alongside his son, who is currently under investigation by federal prosecutors for allegedly concealing earnings from those dealings.
Meanwhile, House Republicans argue that Joe Biden's previous claims, especially outright denials of Hunter profiting from foreign entities such as China, put him in a precarious position.
