This Month in Conservation
Bills we’re tracking and how to take action
There’s a lot going on in the state capitol right now – and you’ve likely heard about some of the shenanigans Speaker Robin Vos has been up to, including his wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing redistricting bill that would hand control of the process of drawing our political maps back to Vos himself (more about that below).
Thanks to conservation voters like you, we have a governor who will veto anti-democratic legislation. However, the margin in the legislature is paper thin. We must remain vigilant. We have to work to make sure voters understand that without that slim margin, Gov. Evers’ vetoes can be overridden. Voters need to understand why this bill is problematic.
With your support, our team is monitoring this bill – and dozens of others [[link removed]] – in the Legislature so we can ensure conservation voters like you know how to best make your voices heard by decision makers.
No matter what surprises come our way, we’ll continue to elevate our priority issues – clean, safe drinking water free from PFAS and a fair, impartial redistricting process.
The support of conservation voters like you makes this important work possible. Chip in a gift today and your contribution – and impact – will be TRIPLED to help us keep building momentum for clean water and fair maps. [[link removed]]
Thank you for being a conservation voter,

Your messages help keep the political pressure on our legislators.
There’s a lot happening in the legislature, including two dangerous bills that threaten emergency funding and our redistricting process. Additionally, PFAS legislation is still in the works and we need to keep the pressure on. Scroll down to see how you can take action.

Assembly Bill 415 (AB 415) [[link removed]] is Speaker Robin Vos’ attempt to fast-track a redistricting bill through the legislature to make it so the State Legislature holds all the power in deciding how our voting maps are drawn. This blatant power-grab would be detrimental to communities around the state and could undermine our work toward an independent, nonpartisan redistricting process.
Write your senator today and ask them to oppose AB 415 to ensure all Wisconsin communities can be fairly represented >>> [[link removed]]

Assembly and Senate Joint Resolution 6 (AJR 6 and SJR 6) [[link removed]] is a constitutional amendment that would eliminate the governor’s ability to quickly distribute federal funding. This power of the Executive Branch is necessary to protect communities immediately after a tornado, severe flooding, or other natural disasters. We all know how slowly the legislature can act, and when your community is in the middle of an emergency, there’s no time for political posturing and lengthy floor debates.
Take action now, and let your senator know this is a terrible idea >>> [[link removed]]

The PFAS bill is still in the works.
Thanks to your countless phone calls, emails to legislators, and contributions that have helped us run digital ads in key legislative districts, our demands for strong PFAS legislation are being heard in the State Capitol.
Senate Bill 312 is the bill that will determine how the $125 million to address the PFAS crisis in the state budget will be spent. We are asking key legislators to remove the poison pill from the bill which would undermine the DNR’s ability to hold polluters accountable. We won’t let up until that bill is rewritten to prioritize communities.
Help us keep the pressure on by calling or writing your legislators today [[link removed]] or contact your local WCV organizer to join one of our phonebanks [[link removed]].

Green Tie Madison was a perfect night, thanks to you.
Thank you for making Green Tie Madison a huge success! It was a night to celebrate all the work of conservation voters and members. Everyone there – whether they were accepting an award, giving a speech, or making new connections – was united in support for clean water, clean energy, and democracy. With your support, we’ll keep working with voters, activists, leaders, partner organizations, and elected officials to make progress for Wisconsin’s environment. We’re looking forward to having even more to celebrate in 2024 at Green Tie Milwaukee!

Ways to get involved
Here’s the thing – we can’t do the work we do without conservation voters like you. Whether it’s making phone calls to districts impacted by PFAS contamination, showing up to your local member meetup, or donating to support our efforts, we need you. Click the links below for ways to stay involved and make an impact.
Reach out to your local WCV organizer. [[link removed]] Our organizers are always excited to meet people passionate about their local communities and help you find ways to get involved.
Sign up to volunteer. [[link removed]] We're holding phonebanks every other week in central, southeast, and northeast Wisconsin to drive action on protecting drinking water from PFAS. With your help, we can generate even more calls to legislators' offices that will help us to protect our drinking water from corporate polluters.
Your dollars matter. Our sister organization Wisconsin Conservation Voices is taking part in a nationwide giving day focused on eco nonprofits. Earth Gives Day is coming up on Oct. 5! You can make a donation or set up a peer-to-peer fundraising page here. [[link removed]]
