This Hispanic Heritage Month, we want to highlight Raquel Terán, mama to EJ and a trailblazing candidate who is running in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District! Raquel’s candidacy is truly historic; when elected, she will be the FIRST Latina to ever represent Arizona in Congress.

Raquel is not new to politics or a career of service. In 2006, Raquel began her fight as an organizer to oppose anti-immigrant sentiments and the “show me your papers” racial-profiling law. Since then, she has served in the Arizona House of Representatives and as Chair of the Arizona Democratic Party, later becoming the Minority Leader of the Arizona Senate.

Raquel’s voice matters and it’s critical that people like her sit in positions of power. She knows intimately how policies like stripping abortion rights and blocking medicaid expansion disproportionately harm mamas from immigrant and minority backgrounds. As a mama to EJ and trusted community leader, Raquel understands the impact of policies that leave families with no good options and the importance of reform.

This work is what fuels Raquel, and it’s why she will be ready on day one to pass legislation designed to protect and strengthen immigrant families and make sure ALL mamas deserve access to childcare, healthcare, and paid leave — no matter where they come from or what languages they speak.

We know Raquel is a strong candidate, as strong as they come. But this is a tough race, and she needs grassroots supporters like you to have her back if she’s going to win.
