As part of National Voter Registration Day, the affiliated organization, New PA Project Education Fund was active in each of their centered communities across the Commonwealth. From helping newly-turned 18-year-olds get registered to vote to guiding new citizens through the registration process, it was an amazing experience for their team and registrants. 

We're thankful for the thousands of people both organizations interacted with as part of National Voter Registration Day activities, and encouraged by the enthusiasm we saw in every corner of Pennsylvania.

Registering To Vote In Pennsylvania Has Never Been Easier, Thanks To Governor Josh Shapiro

The New Pennsylvania Project, a voting rights organization modeled after the New Georgia Project founded by Stacey Abrams in 2014, praised Shapiro’s move. “The New Pennsylvania Project is grateful that Gov. Shapiro has taken these steps to increase Pennsylvanian’s access to the ballot box,” New Pennsylvania Project CEO Kadida Kenner said in a statement. “With more than 1.2 million people eligible to vote but unregistered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, today’s announcement will undoubtedly help to close the voter registration gap, especially in communities of color where the gap is the most pronounced.”

On Nov. 7, Pennsylvanians will select a new judge for Commonwealth Court and two for Superior Court — and all of these new judges will immediately wield the power to referee legal disputes over state law and decide major criminal cases. Their rulings can be appealed to the state Supreme Court, Pennsylvania’s court of last resort.

Pennsylvania lawmakers are no closer to finalizing the state’s spending plan nearly three months after the deadline, leaving hundreds of millions of dollars for the poorest schools, student mental health grants, and more in limbo. State House lawmakers returned to Harrisburg this week for the first time since passing the main $45.5 billion budget bill in July. The Democratic majority agreed to support the legislation after securing a commitment from Gov. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, to line-item veto a $100 million private school voucher program championed by Republicans who control the state Senate.
