📊 2021 Business Dynamics Statistics Now Available
Today the U.S. Census Bureau announced the release of the 2021 Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS). The data provide measures of business dynamics, such as job creation and destruction, establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns for the economy overall and aggregated by establishment and firm characteristics. BDS is an annual time-series, covering the years 1978 to 2021.
Data are available on the BDS website, on data.census.gov, in the Census API, and in BDS Explorer version 1.23.1. The Explorer tool provides access to the entire BDS dataset via line charts, bar charts, and thematic maps. The application's intuitive dashboard allows for the construction of tables and charts to compare and sort measures of business dynamism. In this new version release, data users can now select counties by Regional Commission when selecting County in the X-Axis, Group, or Geography dropdown. The following graph from the BDS Explorer shows job creation among startup firms in three select industries within Sector 48-49, Transportation and Warehousing.
