[ [link removed] ]A recent headline from The Washington Post highlighting the GOP's
recent attacks on misinformation research.
From anti-vaccine propaganda to Donald Trump’s “big lie,” online
conspiracy theories are omnipresent in every aspect of American life.
Academic and government institutions have launched research programs to
try and stop this growing trend, but now far-right Republicans are trying
to shut down these programs with a wave of legal attacks.
[ [link removed] ]We’ll explain more in just a moment, but before we do, will you please
chip in $5 or more right now so that COURIER can fight the
spread of misinformation online? Let’s do our part and hold right-wing bad
actors accountable for harming our Democracy.
The MAGA Republicans leading the charge (like Ohio's Rep. Jim Jordan)
claim that tech companies are working hand in hand with Democrats to
“censor” conservative speech. They use this absurd notion to baselessly
attack misinformation research, even though the argument is a blatantly
false conspiracy theory itself.
Yes, John,
irony is alive and well.
This campaign is just the latest by Donald Trump’s Republican Party. Their
goal is to keep conspiracy theories and misinformation spreading so they
can sow confusion and doubt, create division, and upend our democracy.
With funding for misinformation research in danger of disappearing, that
makes COURIER’s work to correct the record with factual, rigorous
journalism more important than ever.
But if we’re going to go toe to toe with the right-wing disinformation
machine, our talented team of journalists needs resources so they can
continue to call out and counter conspiracy theories in the online spaces
where they spread.

right-wing disinformation machine by chipping in $5 today
ahead of our end-of-quarter deadline?
