Dear John, The following note was sent to folks who signed up for a recent meeting on the UAW strike. However, we know all lot of folks couldn't attend so we wanted to share some ideas on how to support the strike with everyone. Many folks are introducing resolutions of support in their unions or other organizations. Here’s a link to a good model from the North Dakota AFL-CIO. There was a powerful video by UAW president Shawn Fain. It’s only 4 minutes and well worth your time. It explains the union’s strategy and links to UAW’s history. It’s great to show to any gathering, too. Of course, People’s World has up-to-the-minute coverage. The banner on the top of the People’s World web page takes you to all the articles covering the strike. We all want to support the picket lines in person. To find out how to find one in your area, you can contact me — you saw me in the video at Wednesday’s meeting — and I’ll work with you. Contact me directly by emailing [email protected], and I’ll get right back to you. Be aware that 38 part distribution locations across 20 states went on strike at noon last Friday. This provides a great opportunity for comrades from across the country to show solidarity on the picket line. Here is a link to the actual addresses of the facilities and a map locating them. In solidarity, Beck for the CPUSA Labor Commission |
