John, I’m Maya Handa. I’m Nida’s friend, former campaign manager, and godmother to her daughter, Aaliyah.
I’m about to tell you a story about why I convinced Nida to run for office, but her End of Quarter deadline for her County Commission re-election campaign is just 2 days away. So right now, we need to raise $5,000 from grassroots donors to power this campaign into the final stretch of the year. Can you chip in $27 right away? >>
When I heard there was going to be an open Congressional seat in 2022, I instantly called Nida up and told her she needed to run. She laughed me off at first, saying a 25 year old progressive Muslim woman had no chance at making it to Congress.
But all of those reasons were exactly why she needed to run. Our community DESERVED and NEEDED an elected leader who knew what it was like to face the problems of today: gun violence, reproductive health access, extremist hate, student loans, and so much more.
We may have started as the underdog, but despite being outspent close to four to one by extremist special-interest Super PACs, we came within inches of winning.
Nida and I have learned a lot together as she fights for her community. But the biggest lesson we’ve learned in her elections is this: There’s nothing more powerful than a grassroots coalition relentlessly pursuing a shared vision for the future. Win or lose, this has always been true – and Nida has won more than she’s lost.
Now, we need to grow this grassroots movement bigger than ever, and help Nida win re-election as County Commissioner to make sure Nida can keep fighting for everyone – especially the underdogs. That means hitting every fundraising goal, starting right now.
Believe me, John, hitting critical deadlines like tonight’s End of Quarter deadline can make or break a campaign. So can Nida and I count on you to pitch in $27 to her campaign TODAY? >>
Thank you,
Maya Handa
