Did you know? The reported wealth of 2023 redistribution pledge signers is over $186 million.
Because less than 30% of our dues-paying members have signed the RP this year, we know that total is under-reported and in fact much higher.
2023 RP signers have pledged to resource movements this year with about $106 million dollars building the world to come.
Though we're currently behind on our fundraising goals, the money is absolutely there in our base to raise RG's organization 2023 budget, and then some. If every single 2023 pledge signer paid RG dues at 10% of their overall giving, we could more than double the operating budget by January. And this wouldn’t require even half our members (since only about 30% of members sign the pledge year to year)!
Also - of the people who have signed the pledge, 57% of those overall reported assets are moving out the door this year and into social movements. Nearly perfect glass half empty, glass half full here. We are really pushing our people to move big money, AND we have work to do.
CHAPTER UPDATES
Cross-Chapter Member-led #StopCopCity
In June 2023, a group of RG members came together to join the ambitious and historic pivot of the #StopCopCity movement to stand up a referendum campaign as one tactic following the city council's approval to finance the construction of a controversial and wildly unpopular police training facility in south Atlanta aka “Cop City.” We set a goal of raising $250k as part of the larger campaign launch goal of $1.5M. We hosted a donor briefing with over 30 attendees, and made asks of family, coworkers, and each other. In total, we raised over $190k from over 100 people within the RG community. We’re closing out our active involvement in the rapid response campaign, but wanted to share these celebrations and take-aways that may be applicable to future member-led campaigns.

Summer Retreat with Transforming Power Fund, Peace House, Revalue Investing and Fund MI Future. [[link removed]] RG-Michigan
The RG Michigan Chapter is moving $50,000 for the Transforming Power Fund [[link removed]] this year. In July, we held a retreat with TPF and other redistribution partners where we deepened our mutual understanding of each other's work. Our chapter built key capacity in understanding how a social justice fund like TPF is different from traditional philanthropy.
On October 1, we will follow up with a fall retreat focusing on money stories and "tough nuts to crack" in our redistribution. We are excited to welcome Aimée Laramore, Director of Learning Services at the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy (Grand Rapids) to help us build a soft landing place for hard topics around wealth, class, and redistribution. Register here [[link removed]] !
19 smiling RGLA members at the community meeting, and miso the dog! [[link removed]] RG-Los Angeles
RGLA has been rockin’ and rolling! Over the summer, two of our members went to the national organizing summit, and this fall, two of our members will lead a chapter praxis. In September, we hosted a community gathering attended by 19 folks and 1 dog! People brought friends, roommates, other organizers, and we were inspired by the energy and momentum we feel moving forward as a chapter.
RG-New Orleans
New Orleans is beginning the process of rebuilding. We held our first strategy dinner meeting to discuss what outreach and growth look like in our region and our commitment to cross-racial, cross-class organizing efforts. We did a bit of power mapping and will be doing it again with a hopefully larger group at our next meeting next month!
RG-Portland
The Portland Chapter is kicking off the fall with a praxis group! We're rekindling connections with local partners with a few members hopping on a Social Justice Fund NW webinar: "Making a Will that Reflects Your Values." Plus our base-building team is flyer-ing around town and doing more 1-1s with new members. We're looking forward to the seasons changing and stewing on chapter structure questions and bringing more folks into leadership roles.

Overcoming Conflicting Feelings About Wealth Redistribution
Do you want to redistribute wealth but feel too afraid to do it, or get stuck on figuring out how much to give? It’s normal to feel conflicted about decisions that impact our sense of safety and security.

RG in the Media
RICH WHITE MEN
Former RGer, Garrett Neiman, has written a new book called Rich White Men: How to Uproot the Old Boy's Club and Transform America . The book profiles Garrett's experience in the circles of billion- and millionaire- white men during his time at elite private institutions and in fundraising for the equity and racial justice non-profits he founded over the last 15 years. Rich White Men is part expose, part personal reckoning with his own identity as a rich white man, and part analysis of policy solutions to bring the US toward much greater equity.
Former RGer Abraham Lateiner, and current RGer Otis Pitney, are working on an impact campaign alongside the book to extend its reach in wealthy circles and matchmake interested wealthy readers with the right political homes and grassroots organizing efforts. Here is their website if you would like to learn more or reach out: Rich White Men [[link removed]] .
We encourage you to consider joining RG as a dues paying member [[link removed]] , and if you would like to get involved in your local chapter, please fill out this intake form [[link removed]] !
