Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced his endorsement of Tom Barrett for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, elevating the race’s profile nationally. The Cook Political Report called the race “the most competitive open seat in the country,” and it is expected to be a battleground in the 2024 presidential election.

“Tom is a dedicated family man who understands the struggles working families face each day,” said McCarthy. “I know Michigan, and our country, will be stronger and more secure with Tom Barrett as the next Congressman from the Seventh District of Michigan.
