John,
With a coronavirus pandemic looming, America’s for-profit health care system is taking center stage. So is the necessity for Medicare for All.
A story appeared in the news last week about a man who felt ill after returning from a business trip getting stuck with a $1400 charge for a coronavirus test―and he had insurance.1
27.5 million Americans are uninsured, and won’t be able to see a doctor until well after they’ve infected others.2
And Donald Trump’s Health & Human Services Secretary, a former Big Pharma executive, told Congress that he’s more interested in ensuring that a vaccine will protect corporate profits, not the American people―even though the work to develop the vaccine is being funded with taxpayer dollars.3
We need to build a health care system in this country that protects everyone. That means passing Medicare for All, so that health care is a human right. Chip in $8 to fund our work!
It’s time to stop thinking that unlimited money to “keep Americans safe” can only be spent on planes and bombs. A recent study from The Lancet shows that investing in a Medicare for All system would save money and lives.3
Trump spent the first year of his Presidency fighting to kick 20 million more people off of their insurance by repealing the Affordable Care Act. His party’s insistence that health care is a luxury only for those who can afford it will contribute to the spread of this pandemic, endangering even those who can afford health care.
Seniors already spend 40% of their average Social Security checks on health care. Medicare for All gets rid of premiums, deductibles and copays―and covers dental, vision, hearing, and long-term care.
Medicare for All is the solution. It’s time to make health care a human right. Chip in to fuel our fight!
Thanks,
Michael Phelan
