From a failure to address teacher pay to making our state’s public education funding contingent upon a controversial school voucher program, Republican lawmakers are failing all of us when it comes to education.

Prodded by our governor and their own extreme agenda, Republican state legislators have made some dangerous and misguided decisions this past year that have put our public schools at risk.

Yet despite their desperate attempts to the contrary, Abbott’s school voucher program is far from a fait accompli. We’ve consistently proven that we have what it takes to defend public education, and that Abbott won’t have the votes to force his school voucher program through.

During this past legislative session, the House school voucher bill never even made it to the House floor. The coalition of House lawmakers who strongly oppose school vouchers has been consistent and effective — they’re standing strong.

And our work on the ground is paying off. Our ad campaign against school vouchers and our postcard project has further solidified support for public education amongst everyday Texas voters and within the Texas Legislature.
