While all eyes are on the South Carolina primary today, there is a red alert on the ground in a key battleground state: Arizona Republicans are trying to limit the ability of the state’s independent redistricting commission to draw legislative boundaries in 2021.

Over the past few years, Arizona’s Republican trifecta has pushed for some of the most extreme forms of voter suppression with control of both chambers of the state legislature and the governor’s mansion. But now they’re taking another big step to infringe the state’s fair electoral mapmaking process by pushing for new limitations on the state’s independent redistricting commission.

We’ve been investing to retake the Arizona State Legislature to halt the GOP’s voter suppression for the past cycle, but now we need to step it up with all the state’s electoral maps at stake. The only way to ensure a fair redistricting process in the key battleground state in 2021 is to retake a chamber of the legislature this year.

Arizona Democratic Senate candidate Mark Kelly has raised more than $20 million in the past year, but the money isn’t trickling down to Democrats running for key state legislative races. Right now, Republicans are out-raising Democrats to the tune of 2:1 in the most competitive legislative pickup opportunities in Arizona.

To build a xxxxxx against the GOP’s voter suppression in this national battleground, we’re ramping up our investments in the small sliver of key state legislative races that can help us win back power in Arizona in 2020.
