Dear friend,

Climate change is contributing to erratic weather patterns in South Sudan that have wiped out farmers’ crops, pushed people into hunger, and destabilized the economy.

This is the kind of havoc climate change is wreaking on communities around the world. Mercy Corps is on the ground in South Sudan and 40+ countries to help those most affected by climate change cope, adapt, and thrive.

You can help us go 5X as far by making a gift today. Every $1 you give will be combined with an average of $4 in public grants to help us make 5X the impact where it’s needed most.

Can communities grappling with climate change count on your support today?

These women from South Sudan are part of a Mercy Corps-supporter farmer’s group. By pooling their resources, they’re able to better address climate shocks and improve crop production.
Mercy Corps is providing seeds and helping farmers form support groups in South Sudan. In Amadi Payam, five men and 12 women began a support group, pooling their money together to farm on the same land and work through common challenges. But shortly before the harvest heavy rains washed away their crops.

“The floods washed away all our crops and we had no harvest again last year. Our homes were also destroyed by wind and flooding, and we had to relocate to higher grounds which were safe from the flood waters.”

Now, with seeds and training provided by Mercy Corps, this group is farming a new area of land. They’ve used the food they’ve grown to feed their families and any surplus is sold at the local market. The income is put back into the group’s account and distributed to its members.

Susan is a member of this support group. She is a widow and has struggled to provide daily basic needs for her eight children. Since joining the group, she’s been able to pay for food, medicine, school fees, and farming tools.

The work Mercy Corps is doing in communities affected by climate change and conflict around the world makes a difference. And we’re stronger when we work togetheryour gift today can help our work go 5X as far in 40+ countries when we combine your gift with public grant funding.

Thank you for helping us reach the communities that are taking the brunt of the climate crisis and advocating for a more just world.

Sincerely,

The Mercy Corps team
