Here’s what I’m working on

Whitehouse for Senate

Team,

Here in Washington, Democrats are working hard to pass legislation that moves our country forward. We’re having to contend with MAGA extremists in the House careening the country towards a government shutdown that will cause widespread economic pain for families.

You’ll remember, that at the end of August, I wrote to you asking you to share your priorities for our September session. I want to thank you for taking the time to fill out the survey. I was taking a look at the responses – and am not at all surprised by what concerned people.

Many of you said that the most important action we can take this session is to create an enforceable ethics code for Supreme Court justices. A close second? Defend the rights of other states to provide abortion care.

Team, I’m leading the charge on these issues. My judicial ethics legislation, the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal and Transparency (SCERT) Act – the most comprehensive legislation to tackle the ethics crises at SCOTUS to date – passed the Senate Judiciary Committee. And I’ve introduced the Freedom to Travel for Health Care Act to push back on Republicans’ anti-abortion agenda and ensure women can travel to access reproductive health care – a right the dark-money-built Supreme Court endangered by overturning Roe.

I’m committed to tackling these important issues, so you can count on the GOP to fight me every step of the way. Far from supporting progress, MAGA Republicans in the House don’t even want the government open at all. The MAGA extremists’ aversion to governing makes clearer than ever why Democrats can’t afford to lose any seats in the Senate. So I’m asking: Can you chip in today to protect my seat and expand our Democratic Senate majority in 2024?

I appreciate your continued support,

Sheldon Whitehouse
