Our government should never be held hostage by extremists, team.
We're racing against the clock, facing an impending government shutdown in a high-stakes situation with extreme House Republicans.
I've witnessed firsthand the games they play in the other Washington, and it's appalling. It's the same old partisan politics that have repeatedly pushed our nation to the brink of disaster.
Let me be blunt, team: Extreme House Republicans KNOW just how disastrous a government shutdown would be for our country, state, and district. Still, they'd rather prioritize their own political and personal agendas over the American people's needs.
A shutdown would mean veterans, federal law enforcement, government employees, families, national parks, social services, and small business owners would all suffer. It would harm people and essential services nationwide as thousands of hardworking Washingtonians would face furloughs, critical services would be disrupted, and our economy would take a major hit. All because some politicians care more about scoring points than serving the people who elected them.
That's why I've been tirelessly fighting, alongside many of my colleagues to try and prevent this crisis. I'm proud to lead the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress or the "Fix Congress Committee" and I remain committed to working across the aisle to find common ground and pass a budget that keeps our government running smoothly. But team, we have our work cut out for us.
The American people shouldn't be a pawn in politics. If you agree we have a duty to keep our government running and avoid a shutdown, add your name to my petition today >> [link removed]
