Hi,

When I first ran for Senate, I never could have guessed what my first term would be like.I've been very public about the challenges I faced starting a family, having suffered two miscarriages before the birth of my new daughter.

Then, I was incredibly surprised to learn that I was the first person to ever give birth while serving in the PA State Senate. There aren’t a lot of firsts left for people like me – a white, straight, cisgender woman. So, it felt pretty odd that in 2023 this glass ceiling still existed.

These experiences have given me a unique perspective. That's why I've introduced a bill to provide three days of paid leave for workers experiencing pregnancy loss. And it's why I'm working to guarantee paid family and sick leave for workers in our Commonwealth.

It's not always easy to get things done in the Senate, but what we're fighting for is important. I've made it a priority to reach across the aisle and work with my Republican colleagues on these and many other important issues.
