Dear John,

In our continued mission to eliminate the harm caused by gun violence, we recognize that the intensity and weight of our work can be taxing, both mentally and emotionally. It's for this reason that we enacted a sabbatical policy last year. 

Ending the gun violence epidemic isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon. We must prioritize well-being to maintain the stamina required for this long-term effort. Sabbaticals offer a unique opportunity for individuals to step back, recharge, and engage in personal and professional development. It's an investment not just in the person taking the sabbatical, but also in the strength and vitality of our collective endeavor. When we return, we bring fresh perspectives and renewed energy to our advocacy, educational programs, and political efforts.

This year two of our staff members have taken a sabbatical. And, as a testament to this commitment, I will also be taking a sabbatical this Fall. This period will allow me to engage in the very practices we value, ensuring that I can continue to serve our cause with the energy and focus it requires. During my absence, everything will continue with our team leading the way.

CS Wright, our Director of Operations, and Dylan O`Connor, the Director of Government Affairs, will lead the charge from October 1st through the end of the year. I have complete faith that our team and all of you will continue the fight to end the epidemic of gun violence in our communities. I look forward to reconnecting with all of you in the new year!
