I hope you can join us at WE ACT’s 35th Anniversary Gala ([link removed]) on Wednesday, October 18th from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at Columbia University’s Alfred Lerner Hall.

This year we are happy to honor Donele Wilkins, a champion of Environmental Justice, whose critical work spans decades. Donele is currently the Chief Executive Officer at the Green Door Initiative ([link removed]) , a nonprofit environmental justice organization in Michigan that works to ensure that everyone is environmentally literate and capable of promoting and living a sustainable lifestyle.
Donele has been a trailblazer in environmental justice in Michigan, and continues to be a vital leader in the movement to this day. Her many accomplishments include playing a key role in developing Michigan’s Environmental Justice Policy; launching Detroit’s first green jobs training program; advocating for citizen involvement in public policies and citizen science; and placing environmental stewardship on the agenda of community leaders and decision makers. Her work in pioneering sustainable workforce development programming in Detroit has played an essential role in improving environmental health and securing economic engagement opportunities for disadvantaged communities in the Detroit metro area.
