We won! Our victory in the Heathrow expansion case was one of the most exciting days of my time here at Friends of the Earth. The fact that we won this case on climate grounds makes it a truly historic moment and I for one couldn't be more proud of our legal team.

It really is a David and Goliath story for the climate emergency. And sets an important legal precedent.

A VISIT TO DOWNING STREET

Over 300,000 of you signed our petition calling for tougher action on ocean plastics. Well, this week a group of us handed that petition in to 10 Downing Street.

It's clear that we need the government to introduce a plan that starts phasing out non-essential single-use plastics now. Meanwhile it also needs to think about tackling trickier plastics, like in clothes and car tyres, as soon as possible.

(No signs of Larry the cat though.)

GUNNERS GO GREEN

Speaking of reducing plastic, we're pleased to announce that Arsenal F.C. has saved over 500,000 plastic cups from going into landfill by introducing a reusable cup scheme last season.

IS CLIMATE BREAKDOWN SEXIST?

With International Women's Day around the corner, Friends of the Earth staffers Muna and Fran meet with activist Helen Pankhurst to discuss how climate impacts women and girls, and why we're partnering with Care International on its annual March for Women.

We also hear from our colleague Sostine in Uganda about a grassroots movement to stop rural livelihoods being destroyed by sugar plantations.

8 March: CARE International’s #March4Women

To celebrate International Women’s Day on Sunday 8th March, CARE International is holding two events in central London: an indoor rally at the Southbank Centre, followed by a march from Whitehall Place to Parliament Square.

Around the world, the climate emergency is hitting women and girls the hardest. That's why we're teaming up with CARE International to highlight the women on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Because climate justice is gender justice.
