Dear John,
Tomorrow night, instead of participating in the Republican presidential debate, Donald Trump is giving a speech to striking autoworkers in Detroit in an effort to convince voters that he’s a champion of the working class.
What complete hogwash. Trump’s first term was a disaster for working people, and a second term would be even worse.
But friends, Donald Trump is a master at using culture war issues and racial grievance to appeal to working-class voters. In fact, his ability to peel off blue-collar voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin was one of the keys to his victory in 2016.
We can’t let him get away with it again. So tomorrow morning, before Trump even begins speaking, we’re launching a social media blast of viral posts on the most anti-worker, anti-union things Trump did as president.
Then, as Trump’s allies in the right-wing media are pushing out his phony claims about supporting workers, our facts will be right there alongside his lies on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and all the other platforms, debunking his lies before they spread unchecked.
We need to make sure that working-class voters know the truth about Donald Trump. Will you donate $15 to educate the public and counter Trump’s lies about supporting workers and the working class?
For decades, Republicans have pushed policies that serve the interests of the rich over everyday Americans. Massive tax breaks for billionaires. Starvation wages. Windfalls for Wall Street while working people get crumbs.
This has always been the Republican Party agenda, and Donald Trump is no different.
As president, Trump made it easier for corporations to fire workers who speak up for better pay or working conditions. He packed the National Labor Relations Board and the federal courts with opponents of workers’ rights who helped corporations quash union-organizing drives.
Trump restricted overtime pay and weakened worker safety protections. His $1.5 trillion tax cut overwhelmingly went to corporations and the top 1%, at the expense of working families.
His Obamacare repeal legislation would have taken health care away from more than 20 million people. He made it easier for Big Pharma to jack up drug prices.
And yet Trump has the nerve to go to Detroit and tell UAW workers that he’s “always had their back.” It would be more accurate to say he’s always f them in the back.
We cannot let Trump take the stage without an effective, immediate response, and no one is better than the creative team here at Inequality Media Civic Action at using social media and viral videos to debunk Trump’s lies. Will you chip in $15?
Yes, I’ll donate $15 to help educate the public and counter Trump’s lies about supporting the working class.
Thanks for joining with us in the fight for democracy,
