Friend, The chaos and dysfunction in Washington is on full display. Sadly, Iowans have come to expect Congress to end up on the brink of a government shutdown every single year. It is unacceptable and taxpayers deserve better. As a Member of the House Appropriations Committee, I have worked to slash wasteful spending and advance conservative priorities, crafting legislation that reduces the EPA by 39%, defunds Biden’s ridiculous diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at federal agencies, prevents Biden from supersizing the IRS, builds the wall, and secures the border. I do not want to see the government shut down, and I do not want to see the Biden-Pelosi agenda in law any longer. I’m going to continue fighting for exactly what you have asked me to fight for: the most conservative spending bills we can possibly get passed. Hearing from you on government spending is critically important. Please take my poll below and we’ll continue to follow up and stay in touch this week. Best, With five days until a government shutdown, how would you like Congress to proceed? Allow the government to shut down until 12 appropriations bills are passed and signed into law. Pass a short-term continuing resolution and work to pass the remaining appropriations bills. Extend current government funding levels until January of 2024. Other I encourage you to share your thoughts with me! Please feel free to give me a call or send me an e-mail with your thoughts – we want to hear from you! Get in touch with me here. Make Washington Work Again I joined Jeff Stein live from the National Cattle Congress in Waterloo to discuss my effort with Senator Joni Ernst to drain the swamp. Watch the video here and read about the initiative here! Fighting for Families It was great to join Mom Congress last week! I appreciate their advocacy on behalf of moms and families nationwide – together we can improve maternal health, strengthen family leave, and expand child care access! Watch my remarks here. Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives I enjoyed having the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives in the office to discuss the importance of implementing a streamlined permitting process and supporting rural communities in the upcoming farm bill. Community Highlights My team attended the grand opening and ribbon cutting for the Hawkeye Community College Automation and Robotics Center at TechWorks in Waterloo.
