Team,
I don’t blame anyone who’s looking through their inbox and wondering what the big deal is about FEC deadlines. So let’s zoom out and talk about why they’re such a big deal — especially for a brand-new organization like ours.
The Federal Elections Commission requires all candidates and political organizations to report publicly (typically every three months) on how much money they’ve raised and spent — so everyone can keep track of who’s funding the groups working on elections and make sure there’s no funny business going on.
But these public reports also matter to the media and to political observers (including our opponents), who use them to gauge which organizations have the most support and which can make the biggest impact.
This week is the first FEC deadline for Operation Saving Democracy. The report we file will always be the official record of who showed up from the start — will you make a donation of any amount today and become an official founder of this one-of-a-kind grassroots team?
I can’t wait to show off what we’ve been building, because I’m not sure there’s ever been a group quite like this. We’re a team of retired generals working side by side with teachers — former ambassadors alongside with union organizers.
We’ve all come together as Americans who can see that our democracy is in danger. There’s an extreme, violent, and authoritarian strain of politicians vying for power in 2024, and they have built their campaigns by threatening to end democracy as we know it.
If they succeed and Trumpism takes back the White House, they will make good on those threats. It’s on people like us to stand up and fight like hell to defeat them.
History is playing out in front of our eyes — chip in today and let the record show you decided in this fateful moment to help save our democracy.
Thank you,
Amy
