AFSCME family,
United Auto Workers aren’t just striking for better pay – they are striking for all working people. Ford, GM and Stellantis are making record profits. The CEOs of these companies are making millions each year. But they say the workers who made these record profits happen don’t deserve their share. Corporate greed drives the super-rich to take and take and take, while the working class is stuck in a race to the bottom. Enough is enough.
Show the autoworkers that you have their back – take two minutes to record a video telling them you stand with them.
This week President Biden and former President Trump are in Michigan. President Biden accepted UAW’s invitation to join the picket line. It makes sense given Biden’s support for working people. He lowered prescription drug costs for seniors. His new overtime law will mean thousands of dollars more in the pockets of working-class Americans. He got money to states, cities, towns and schools to get AFSCME members back to work when they were laid off during the pandemic. And he fights for Social Security and Medicare, which are under attack every day.
Meanwhile, billionaire former President Donald Trump is using this moment to hold a political rally. Who knows what he’ll say this time, but one thing he won’t talk about is his record for working people. Trump tried to make it legal for bosses to steal tips from workers. He gutted overtime protections for 8 million workers – the same protections that Biden just restored. And Trump appointed the deciding judge in Janus v. AFSCME – the Supreme Court case that tried to weaken our union and tried to make it harder to negotiate good contracts.
The UAW strike is about so much more than Detroit. It’s about standing up to billionaires and corporate greed to demand that working people get the fair share they’ve earned. Tell UAW strikers you have their backs. Can you record a quick message of solidarity now?
In solidarity,
AFSCME
