Here in North Carolina, radical Republicans have a stranglehold on our legislature. We’ve seen the damage they’re trying to inflict just in the last few weeks. In the upcoming 2024 elections, they’re working to cement the hold they have on our state by winning offices across all levels of government that could let them run roughshod over our rights and freedoms.

We saw how important it was when we broke their supermajority the first time. We stopped all kinds of bad legislation. Now, because one disloyal member of the Democratic caucus flipped, they have a one-seat supermajority again.

John, my aim in the coming months is to set Democratic candidates up for success — from the legislature to the presidency. I believe that we can break the GOP supermajorities and end their legacy of extremism. But it won’t be easy.

Already, Republicans are trying to change the rules around our elections so that their candidates cannot lose. We have to overcome them NOW if we’re going to defeat them.
