Dear Friend,
Depending on your age, you may remember when the war on drugs started … or you may remember back when Nancy Reagan told us to “Just Say No” … most of us probably still remember when marijuana was labeled as a dangerous “gateway drug”.
But can you believe where we are today?
And how far we’ve come?
- All across the country, states are legalizing marijuana.
- In New York, overdose prevention centers are saving lives.
- In California, most employers can no longer drug test you for marijuana.
- And in Oregon, instead of just locking people up, drug use is being met with additional, necessary health and addiction services.
Powered by people like you,– we are ending the drug war and building a better future where drug policy is based on science and humanity, not on fear, stigma, and control.
I know that you value our mission. It’s why I am inviting you to join a dedicated group of DPA members in our Champion Circle by contributing $1,000 or more today if you can.

I know this is a big ask, but I think you’ll agree we’ve got big problems to solve — there is still a lot that needs to take place in order to totally tear down the aggressively oppressive drug war. If you are not able to join the Champions Circle today, I still encourage you to sign up for a DPA Membership, because the more of us there are, the more power we have at this critical moment. Memberships are available for as little as $3.00.
Right now, our country is facing the urgent crises of mass criminalization and an astounding rate of preventable drug overdose deaths.
We have made progress to treat drug use as a health issue, not a criminal one… but our policies are being used by many power-hungry politicians and media pundits as a scapegoat for complex societal issues.
There is no denying that many of our communities are suffering from mass incarceration, drug overdose, homelessness, and a toxic drug supply— and DPA has a roadmap to meet this moment!
We cannot double down on the same failed drug war policies and priorities that have fueled these very real problems. Instead, we need substantial investments to promote care and support, and to address generations of racism, neglect, and brutal law enforcement.
We need Champions like you to help power this work forward, because even as we break new ground in the fight for better drug policy, we are up against opponents intent on using deceptive narratives about people who use drugs to turn back our progress.
Please, if you can, join the Champions Circle today and play a leading role in driving this important work forward.
Thank you for supporting DPA and for helping advance justice and save lives!
Sincerely,
Paul
