John,

American journalism is in crisis. Led by bad actors like Tucker Carlson,
Fox News, and Breitbart, right-wing media outlets keep harming our
democracy by spreading dangerous conspiracy theories and lies.

Unfortunately, the mainstream media seems completely unable (or unwilling)
to stop them.

COURIER was founded to take this crisis head-on.

We’re committed to fighting back by providing factual, hard-hitting
reporting to the communities that need it most — without hiding our
bylines behind a paywall or subscription model.

You can read more about what makes our accessible reporting different from
its paywalled counterparts in the email below, but if you’re short on time
and still want to support good journalism, [ [link removed] ]please pitch in
$5 or anything you can today ahead of our end-of-quarter
deadline.

Subject: No paywalls, no subscription fees. Just honest journalism.

Courier provides reliable news coverage in "news deserts" across the
country, with no paywalls or subscription fees. Instead, we rely on
contributions from supporters like you.

[ [link removed] ]With our mid-month fundraising deadline approaching, can you pitch in
anything you can to help us reach our goal of raising $7,500 by midnight
tonight? Thank you for your support.

John,

The mainstream media is failing. By prioritizing profits and the illusion
of “balance,” the public is losing trust in one of democracy’s most
important institutions. To make matters worse, by chasing clicks and
rushing to present “both sides of the story,” many media organizations
consequently provide oxygen to right-wing bad actors and their efforts to
spread misinformation.

It’s how Donald Trump became President. It’s how climate change denialism
became mainstream. It’s how anti-vaccine propaganda spread to every corner
of the Internet.

We could go on and on, but here’s the good news:

Courier was founded as a bold response to these failures. We don’t chase
profit and will never compromise our values in our reporting.

Our mission is to bring reliable, trustworthy news to the communities that
need it most. We call out misinformation in real time, by providing
context and factual reporting in the spaces where misinformation thrives.

Currently, we’re operating in nine states, but we want to keep expanding!
By providing credible, fact-based coverage in battleground states like
Arizona, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Virginia, Florida, Iowa, North
Carolina, and Nevada, we can keep voters in these key states informed as
they head to the ballot box next year.

And we do it without paywalls or subscription fees in order to make our
reporting as accessible as possible.

But running a growing network of newsrooms doesn’t come cheap, and without
the revenue stream provided by subscription fees, we rely on contributions
from donors like you to sustain our operations. Today we’re approaching
our mid-month fundraising deadline for the month of September, so we’re
reaching out to ask for your help.

reliable, honest journalism that's committed to combating misinformation,
please consider pitching in anything you can so we can meet our goal of
raising $7,500 by midnight. We truly can't do it without you.
