Team,

I went on Fox News on Sunday to say one thing: a government shutdown is a risk to national security.

The end of the fiscal year is this Saturday, which means Congress must come together to approve funding to keep our government operating. However, extremists in the U.S. House are using our nation’s government as a pawn in their political games and are threatening to force a national government shutdown.

We can’t play games with our national government and it would be irresponsible to force a shutdown right now.

This small group of extremists wants to hold our government hostage, which would furlough many federal workers, delay new defense contracts, postpone civil litigation, disrupt major infrastructure projects, halt inspections for safe drinking water, endanger our national security, and so much more.

I will be working hard this week to avoid a government shutdown because there is simply too much at risk. I know that my colleagues and I can come together to reach a path forward that does not result in shutting down our nation’s government.

As always, I will keep you updated as this situation continues. I am thankful for your support, especially at times like this when it is critical to remember that each member of Congress is elected to represent, work, and deliver for our constituents and their interests. You can bet I am in Congress fighting for you right now.

Thank you,

– Debbie
