Dear Friends and Neighbors,

A recent Minnetonka City Council meeting had an unusually large turnout from a group of residents demanding accountability in response to a video showing a violent carjacking of a Minnetonka woman.

The mayor and council members at the local level were sympathetic to the concerns of their constituents and expressed frustration with state leaders at the legislative level and governor’s level dismissing the threat of crime and failing to keep criminals in prison. Democrats at the state and county levels continue to turn a blind eye at rising crime. The concerns and frustrations of Minnetonka residents are very real and shared by thousands across the metro area. At the same time, Minnetonka residents may want to examine who they’ve voted for if they want to meaningfully fight crime in their community.

In the 2022 election, Minnetonka overwhelmingly voted for multiple Democrats who won their elections and went on to ignore crime and implement policies of releasing criminals while attacking law enforcement professionals.

  • Democrat Governor Tim Walz won 67% of the vote in Minnetonka
  • Democrat Attorney General Keith Ellison won 63% of the vote in Minnetonka
  • Democrat State Senators won 66% of the vote in Minnetonka
  • Democrat State Representatives won 65% of the vote in Minnetonka
  • Far-left Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty defeated a moderate, police endorsed Democrat in Minnetonka by over 1,000 votes.

It's clear many residents in the suburbs were misled by seemingly moderate Democrat campaigns in 2022 that included pledges to support law enforcement. Keith Ellison and Mary Moriarty have routinely ignored crime and failed to prosecute violent criminals, while Tim Walz and Democrat legislators passed laws that only further embolden criminals, and focused on far-left social issues rather than the safety of Minnesotans.

2023 Democrat Public Safety Bill

  • Reduce prison time from 2/3 of the offender’s sentence to ½. Making 92% of Minnesota prisoners eligible for early release.
  • Removes provision explicitly clarifying that pedophilia is not protected as a sexual orientation under the Human Rights Act.
  • Unconstitutional Red Flag gun laws that allow gun confiscation from Minnesotans before being convicted, or even suspected of committing a crime.
  • Felony probation capped to 5 years.
  • Reduced sentences for juveniles tried as adults.
  • Funding for a state database to track “bias reports” against organizations or individuals accused of a “bias incident” based on “perceived race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, national origin, or disability.”

Republican Alternative

  • Getting tough on crime: Increasing penalties for carjacking, increasing penalties for fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, and increased sentences for offenders with two or more prior violent crimes.
  • Supporting and funding law enforcement: Recruit more officers with Pathways for Policing program,  providing grants to local government to recruit more officers, and creating scholarship programs for officer training.
  • Accountability for prosecutors and judges: Require county attorneys to provide data about felony offenses that go uncharged, creation of a website for the public to research that record the decisions judges make in following sentencing guidelines, and creating public record of when suspects post bail.

Minneapolis Democrat Vice Chairs in the News

Two Minneapolis Democrat Vice Chairs recently made headlines for issues Democrat politicians have largely ignored. Earlier this month, Minneapolis Democrat Vice Chair Shivanthi Sathanandan was violently attacked during a carjacking in north Minneapolis. In a Facebook post, Shivanthi rightfully expressed her frustration and anger for the lack of accountability criminals face. I pray the attackers are brought to justice and that Shivanthi and her family are able to heal from this horrific incident.

Another Minneapolis Democrat Vice Chair made it in the news for his recent resignation due to frustration regarding election integrity in the Democrat endorsement process. In his resignation letter to Democrat party leadership he complained of the Democrat endorsement procedure being too complex, favoring incumbents, and alleging the party has ignored "significant delegate irregularities."
