FEBRUARY 2020

[7]

Dear John,

This month brings new historic U.S. federal legislation to stop plastic
pollution at the source: The BREAK FREE FROM PLASTIC POLLUTION ACT (those
in the U.S. can TELL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TO SUPPORT THIS LEGISLATION HERE!
[8])

It was my honor to have contributed to the PLASTIC REDUCTION SECTION OF
THIS LEGISLATION and to speak, along with my fellow Coalition members, at
the U.S. Capitol in support of the bill earlier this month.

It has been a 10 year journey to get to this point, raising awareness about
the absurdity of single-use plastic through the catalyst of the plastic
straw, a gateway issue to the plastic pollution crisis. WE NEED TO NOW
FOCUS ON THE BIG SYSTEMS CHANGE TO FIX THE PROBLEM HUMANS ALONE HAVE
CREATED. Our collective work is just beginning.

I am thrilled to be embarking on one of the most exciting journeys of my
life and invite you to join me by supporting my participation [7] on leg 15
of the EXXPEDITION, AN ALL-WOMEN VOYAGE TO DOCUMENT PLASTIC POLLUTION IN
THE WORLD’S OCEANS.

We will use the latest technology, including underwater drones and other
specialized equipment, to learn about the chemical makeup of found ocean
plastic. eXXpedition members will use the data gathered to share our
findings and further the movement to stop plastic pollution.

Please consider supporting me on this journey by donating [7], and stay
tuned for updates from the voyage. Together, we will foster solutions to
single-use plastic for the health of humans and the planet.

Onward with gratitude,

Jackie Nuñez
Founder of The Last Plastic Straw &
Program Manager at Plastic Pollution Coalition

TAKE ACTION

[8]

TELL YOUR U.S. REPRESENTATIVE TO SUPPORT THE BREAK FREE FROM PLASTIC
POLLUTION ACT [8]
Every year, the United States alone burns or buries in landfills 32 million
tons of plastic. 8 million tons of plastic pollution escapes into the
world's oceans. The new Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act of 2020
(Senate Bill 3263, HR 5845) will tackle the exploding crisis of plastic
pollution and transform waste and recycling management in the United
States. Send an email to your representative with one click. [8]

SIGN THE PETITION: NO, COCA-COLA, CONSUMERS DO NOT WANT PLASTIC BOTTLES [9]
Coca-Cola's Head of Sustainability has stated that Coca-Cola will not stop
producing single-use plastic bottles because 'consumers still want them.'
We are telling Coke that that is NOT true, in fact: Consumers are sick and
tired of Coca-Cola polluting our planet with single-use plastic. [9]
