Hey John,
Happy World Contraception Day! For the past few years we've used today to highlight how more than 100 countries allow people to access birth control pills without a prescription. Now finally, the U.S. will join that list early next year!
But here's the problem: most health insurance plans can require a prescription first before they cover the cost of birth control pills. We need the Biden Administration to make clear that over-the-counter birth control, now including Opill, purchased without a prescription, must also be covered.
Over-the-counter access to birth control pills is not a replacement for insurance coverage of contraceptives. Yes, the hoops you have to jump through to obtain a prescription can keep people from getting on birth control - but if you have to pay out-of-pocket for the pills, that can be an even larger barrier. Tell the Biden Administration to take action here.
For World Contraception Day, the Free The Pill campaign is pushing this action out on social media. Can you join us? Use the share buttons below to post about this action on your own social media.
The only way our political leaders act is when they feel the pressure. That's where you come in. Let's make sure the Biden Administration is so overwhelmed with letters that they have to respond.
Thanks so much for your activism,
