This morning, Dr. West stood in solidarity with striking autoworkers in Tappan, New York, in cooperation with the United Auto Workers (UAW). This demonstration of unity comes at a crucial time when the gap between executive compensation and workers’ wages has reached alarming proportions. Dr. West plans to continue showing solidarity with UAW members nationwide, with a scheduled trip to Detroit on Wednesday.







While Detroit's three major automakers have seen CEO pay increase by a staggering 40% over the past four years, the workers on the factory floors have received a meager 6% wage increase during the same period. This stark disparity is unjust and unsustainable.



Dr. West, known for his decades-long history of advocating for workers' rights across various sectors, starkly contrasts with the duopoly that has historically prioritized the interests of mass corporate donors and an oligarchy class, perpetuating a system that enriches the few at the expense of the many.



Dr. West's mission is clear: to rally support for genuine solidarity against corporate avarice that sacrifices the precious poor and working people in the face of greedy bosses and profit-driven owners. Symbolic gestures alone are insufficient; substantive pro-worker policies are essential to rectify this injustice.



As Dr. West aptly says, "This is a worker-led strike that recognizes record profits are not being distributed equitably. And we can’t allow certain actors in the auto industry nor any lawmaker to use the transition to electric vehicles as a cudgel. Any transition must be just and equitable, and until that happens, this strike is justified and righteous."
