Hi all,
You know I’m not the one to send fake “sky is falling” emails - my campaign is always honest and transparent about our fundraising. So I’m going to tell it to you straight: we’re on track to be outraised by my GOP opponent.
Kevin McCarthy has gone all in on his “dream candidate” to run against me and has raised tens of thousands of dollars for my opponent. Fancy champagne fundraisers, mass texts pleading for donations, anything my opponent asks for, McCarthy delivers.
I want to explain why we’re falling behind and why this EOQ deadline is so important for our strategy. If you can please rush in a donation right now, I’ll leave a link here [[link removed]] .
Where we stand: Right now, we’re up against the wire to raise as much as we possibly can before the EOQ deadline on Saturday. This is our first major test against Kevin McCarthy and my new GOP opponent because after this deadline, we’ll have to submit our fundraising report. Everyone is going to be watching to see if my opponent outraises us.
Why this matters: Money talks. If my opponent gains the fundraising momentum even more money will flow into his campaign from national Republicans. That means more attack ads on me, both from my opponent and SuperPACs. If we don’t win this seat, there is no way Democrats can take back the House. Kevin McCarthy even admitted his GOP House majority hinges on this “competitive, must-win race!”
What decisions we need to make: After this deadline, we have a major decision to make. How much can we spend to respond to the negative attacks already coming at us? We want to launch new ads on social media, expand our field program, and invest in inexpensive (but effective) radio advertising to fight back against the lies. But I can’t agree to any of this if we’re behind our opponent in fundraising.
Other considerations: Let’s not forget we actually have an election in March! Because of California’s “top 2” primary, I’ll be on the ballot against my new GOP opponent 8 months before the general election. We need to have a strong turnout to show Democrats have the momentum in this race, and this deadline will be our last chance to compare our fundraising before we have to make critical decisions about the investments we can (or cannot make) towards getting out the vote.
What I need from this team: Well, let’s just say I really need your help hitting our fundraising goal! If we fall short, I could be outraised for the first time ever and the GOP will have a huge advantage ahead of our March election because we won’t have the resources to get our field organizing started or fight back against the negative ads against me. Remember, I don’t take a single dime of corporate PAC money so I’m really counting on your support!
That’s why I’m asking you to please send in the biggest donation you possibly can right now. It’s the only thing that’s going to help us reach this goal. Here is the link again: [link removed] [[link removed]]
If you made it to the bottom of this long email, I’m impressed, and thank you.
