Indivisibles,

Last week, the Biden White House announced that it’s creating an American
Climate Corps bringing jobs to 20,000 people in the fight for a greener
future with a focus on young Americans.

This comes as a follow through on campaign promises to fund a climate
corps similar to the Civilian Conservation Corps of the New Deal.
Indivisible has supported this policy for years, and many Indivisibles
made calls in support of such a program -- now it’s a reality. This is a
major step forward in this administration's ongoing commitment to climate
change after [ [link removed] ]passing the biggest climate bill in history last year.

Even in a divided Congress, on the heels of a major election year, Biden
is making big things happen to achieve a better future for all of us.

What are Republicans doing?

Nothing.

No, really, they are basically doing nothing. In a moment when we are six
days out from a government shutdown, House Republicans can’t even get
their ducks in a row enough to coalesce around a unified goal for funding
the government. Kevin McCarthy is so beholden to the extremist Freedom
Caucus that [ [link removed] ]he is floundering, refusing to pick between his speakership
(gifted to him by the Freedom Caucus) and the continued operation of the
entire government apparatus (the obvious choice to anyone else).

[ [link removed] ]The Senate is moving forward on a continuing resolution that would
extend the deadline for a few months, but even Senate Republicans can see
that, as Mitch Mcconnell said, a shutdown is “a loser for Republicans,
politically” and are looking for bipartisan compromise.

This is the state of our democracy. A few extremist Republicans have been
so empowered as to repeatedly hold our entire country hostage, and it
happens so regularly now that it’s almost treated as normal.

But it’s not normal. So, it’s up to us to make noise, expose Republican
extremism, point to the absurdity of a party putting on a MAGA impeachment
charade as the government is on the verge of shutdown, and sketch a stark
contrast with the actual results President Biden and Democrats are
achieving for the American people.

If we do that, we’ll continue bringing people into our movement.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

 Your weekly to-dos

 1. If you have a Republican representative, [ [link removed] ]call them now and demand
they fund the government. We need to remind our Republican
representatives (especially the ones in [ [link removed] ]Unrepresentatives
districts) that the American people are watching them and that we will
not forget how they decided to throw a tantrum rather than govern.
Call your representative and remind them that their duty is to the
American people and not to the Freedom Caucus.
 2. If your representative is a Democrat, [ [link removed] ]call them now and ask them to
champion reproductive freedom and protect abortion access. We
introduced our new [ [link removed] ]Reproductive Freedom Agenda to not only codify
Roe, but also extend protections for reproductive freedoms even
further. We need all Democrats in the House to cosponsor the entire
agenda. Each bill is important on its own, but together they combine
to create comprehensive protections for abortion access and care. Once
you’ve called, [ [link removed] ]write a letter to the editor (LTE) to your local
newspapers encouraging your representative to be a reproductive
freedom champion.
 3. If your Democratic representative has already signed on to cosponsor
all three bills, [ [link removed] ]submit an LTE thanking them for being a
reproductive freedom champion. Our representatives, and their
constituents, need to know when we’re proud of their work. Write an
LTE to let them know. Make sure to encourage your representative to
keep showing up for reproductive freedom by publicly showing your
support.

P.S. We count on the small dollar donors to help fund this movement! If
you're able, [ [link removed] ]please pitch in today to support the grassroots
organizing that powers our progressive wins.

[12]WE LOVE TO SEE IT!

***In the 2023 Indivisible Guide, one of the most important things we
wanted to see was our representatives show up as fighters! We need
representatives that work for the people, not just their bank accounts
and special interests! So, why not highlight those fighters? We Love To
See It! will highlight the work being done by reps fighting for everyday
people’s well being, advancing democracy, and/or protecting personal
freedoms. Let’s stand up for our representatives when they stand up for
us! We Love To See It!***

Gov. Josh Shapiro, PA

[ [link removed] ]Tweet from Gov. Shapiro with a link to an article about automatic
voter registration featuring a big sign that says 'VOTE!' Text reads: 'Now
more than ever, we've got to make our voices heard — and exercise our
fundamental freedom to vote. From now on in PA, you will be automatically
registered to vote if your eligible at any DMV when you get you or renew
your driver’s license or ID unless you choose not to.'

MAGA Republicans have made it their mission to attack voting rights across
the country in order to gain a foothold on more power. They know that the
majority across this country does not support MAGA extremism, so instead
of shifting their policy priorities to ones that align with the American
people, they attempt to disenfranchise as many voters as they can --
especially those in marginalized communities who tend to vote Democratic.

But Democrats are responding.

On Wednesday, Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania implemented automatic
voter registration across the state, allowing every Pennsylvanian to be
automatically opted in to voter registration when they obtain a driver's
license or ID. Gov. Shapiro said “automatic voter registration is a
commonsense step to ensure election security and save Pennsylvanians time
and tax dollars.” [ [link removed] ]Read more about PA’s new system here.

Gov. Kathy Hochul, NY

[ [link removed] ]Tweet from Gov. Hochul featuring a picture of her signing the bills
into law at a table surrounded by people. Tweet reads: 'We are further
cementing New York’s place as a national leader on voting rights. By
safeguarding the integrity of our electoral process and ensuring equal
access to the ballot box, we empower every New Yorker to have their voice
heard.'

Not to be outdone by her counterpart in Pennsylvania, Gov. Kathy Hochul
signed a package of 10 bills into law to expand voting rights and protect
democracy in New York. MAGA schemes to disenfranchise voters don’t just
target registration, they target early voting, voting sites, faithless
electors, and more.

As Gov. Hochul said in the above tweet, “by safeguarding the integrity of
our electoral process and ensuring equal access to the ballot box, we
empower every New Yorker to have their voice heard.” [ [link removed] ]Read more about
how these ten bills will protect democracy in New York here.

**Bonus Points: If you see your rep showing up as a fighter and want to
highlight them, reply to this email with a link to the story and we
might feature it in our next Newsletter.**

Indivisible Project Updates: SCOTUS Accountability

The Supreme Court continues to show itself as a massive ball of
corruption. Whether it’s Justice Thomas accepting millions of dollars in
lavish gifts, travel, and more to the extent that he had to file a
[ [link removed] ]corrections section in his most recent disclosure form, or Justice
Alito proclaiming that “No provision in the Constitution gives [Congress]
the authority to regulate the Supreme Court -- period” in the [ [link removed] ]Wall
Street Journal, we find ourselves in a SCOTUS legitimacy crisis of the
MAGA justices’ own making.

But, Congress does, in fact, have the constitutional authority to restore
integrity to the court.

That’s why Indivisible Project is partnering across the movement to send a
letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Judiciary
Committee Chair Dick Durbin urging them to address these instances of
blatant corruption. The Senate has no choice but to subpoena Justices
Thomas, Alito, and their billionaire benefactors as well as launch a
full-scale investigation in the Senate Judiciary Committee, and other
relevant committees, into the ethical crisis engulfing the Supreme Court.
[ [link removed] ]Sign Indivisible Project’s letter asking Sen. Schumer and Sen. Durbin
to do just that!

**A note** Indivisible Project does not ask you to sign petitions, and
that’s not what we’re asking for here. Petitions often don’t go anywhere
and have no target for change -- they’re used to recruit supporters for
contact lists and otherwise languish, never to be seen by your
representatives. We’re going to take this letter, with all of your
signatures, and hand-deliver it to Leader Schumer and Chairman Durbin.
This is about action, not recruitment.

[ [link removed] ]The sign on period closes this Thursday, September 28. Sign now and
tell Senate Dems: Enough is enough. It’s time to hold corrupt justices
accountable. It’s time to start issuing subpoenas.

Help Protect Reproductive Rights in Ohio

[ [link removed] ]RSVP for Indivisible Project’s national Ohio Fight For Reproductive
Rights Phonebank on Tuesday, October 3 at 6pm ET/3pm PT. In August, voters
in Ohio rejected a MAGA ploy to reduce voter power and end majority rule
in the state, all in an attempt to block protections for abortion and
other reproductive rights. Now we’re gearing up for a November election
where an amendment to the Ohio state constitution enshrining the right to
abortion, contraception, and other reproductive freedoms is on the ballot.
Military and overseas voting started Friday, and in-person early voting
begins October 11. Join us in getting out the vote for reproductive rights
in Ohio!

 Rural Caucus: Government Shutdown Edition

[ [link removed] ]Register for our Rural Caucus call this Wednesday, September 27 at 8pm
ET/5pm PT. The Indivisible Project Rural Caucus will be talking about how
the looming government shutdown could potentially impact rural communities
and how we can best support each other through this MAGA mayhem. Now is
the time to come together in fellowship as we sift through the unique
effects of a shutdown on rural communities. No guarantees that we won’t
laugh, or cry, or both, but while we’re doing that, we’ll have some good
music for you to boot.
