We’ve seen how the tech giants' unchecked power has shaped our society, and we know we need to act with urgency to tackle AI’s risks head-on.

John, we can’t trust Big Tech to self-regulate when it comes to AI.

Urge Congress to regulate AI before it’s too late - click here to sign on.

John,

From ChatGPT to Google Bard, all the buzz right now is about generative AI, a form of artificial intelligence that can create words, sounds, images, and video, sometimes at a level of sophistication that mimics human creativity. [1]

AI has the potential for good, but we’re already seeing its harms playout: Chatbots spreading misinformation, validating heinous conspiracy theories, creating propaganda, and even encouraging children to engage in predatory situations with adults. [2]

As one of the leading organizations that advocates for transparency, accountability, and oversight of Big Tech giants, Accountable Tech is sounding the alarm. Please join us and urge Congress to regulate AI before it renders serious harm to our society and democracy.

Just a few months ago, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and the creator of ChatGPT, told Congress he supports government regulation of AI. [3] He later lobbied against the EU’s proposed AI Act claiming it was “overregulating.” [4] Then recently, all the Big Tech CEOs met with Congress to help write the rules for AI and claim they support regulation. [5]

John, we’ve seen this playbook before from Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and other Big Tech companies calling for regulation while running multi-million-dollar campaigns to defeat it. Last year alone, Big Tech spent $230 million to defeat bipartisan antitrust legislation that would have reined in their monopoly powers. [6]

Congress has a history of leaving new technologies unregulated until it's too late. We can’t let that happen with AI – the risks are too high. Please join us and urge Congress to create real accountability and transparency for new AI technologies.

We can’t trust Big Tech to write their own rules with AI.

About BlueAmp Action:

We cannot sugarcoat the current situation. Right-wing authoritarianism, defeated by a worldwide coalition during WWII, was only in hibernation. Over the past decade it has infected democratic societies--including ours. It is as simple as it is terrifying: What we do now will define the future of our country and world.

We at Blue Amp Action are dedicated to liberal, open societies, where reason and science are applied to solve our problems; where civil rights--including voting rights!--are protected for all. We fight for these values every day. Speaking up on our platforms, raising the voices and the political prospects of liberal pols and pundits.

And savvy grassroots activists like you know, just like we do, that we can’t stop watching the people we help elect: after the elections, we have to keep organizing support for the policies we like and pushing back against the ones we don’t.

When the public tunes out between elections and the only people our elected officials hear from are the paid lobbyists of wealthy corporations, our government stops being accountable to the needs of ordinary families.

Democracy never sleeps, and neither can we.

So we ask that you support our work, so we can continue to engage in this fight every moment of every day. So our kids grow up in democracy, not dystopia.

Thank you for your support for all we do! Please follow Cliff Schecter on Twitter @cliffschecter, or subscribe to The Takedown with Cliff Schecter on YouTube, to keep up to date with this battle for the heart and soul of our country.
