159 Mercy Corps supporters have already joined in to help us get closer to this much-needed match goal. With so many people suffering in Syria and around the world, we really need your support to meet their urgent needs. Please, make a gift of just $10 or more before midnight while it can still double in value and impact, thanks to this special match. Gifts will be matched $1-for-$1, up to a total of $20,000. When I emailed Mercy Corps supporters back in December, I had just returned from a trip to Syria. I went there to document the stories of people — grandparents, moms, dads and kids — whose lives were threatened by violence and displacement. My trip was cut short by an escalation in fighting that has since driven more than 948,000 people from their homes. I was able to leave the country. Most Syrian families cannot. I’m proud to report that despite the recent uptick in violence, Mercy Corps never stopped providing aid in Syria. We operate in ways that can allow us to carry on through the most difficult times in the most difficult places — in Syria, and in places affected by violent conflict, natural disaster, hunger and poverty around the world. It’s challenging work, but the hardships these communities face are much greater. Children born in the last 9 years have never known a Syria without devastating violence. They deserve better. They deserve a chance. Their families deserve relief and opportunity for the future. The situation is especially dire now. Winter wind, rain and near freezing temperatures have compounded Syrians’ suffering and threatened their health. On top of all the food, water and hygiene-related aid we’ve provided in recent months, our teams are laser focused on making sure displaced Syrians have clothes, blankets, wind-resistant shelter, heaters and other supplies that keep people warm. And Syria is just one of more than 40 countries around the world where our teams are battling challenges like hunger, disease and lack of shelter during these winter months. The peaceful, prosperous world you and I want won’t create itself. That work is on us. I hope you’re able to make a difference today — for a safer Syria and a better world — by pitching in with a gift, especially while matching funds are still available. Thank you, Ezra Millstein Senior Content Producer, Mercy Corps
