Friend,
The climate crisis is not a distant threat; it is happening right now, and millions of people worldwide are suffering from the consequences of inaction.
Extreme weather events — such as the current hurricane season, the devastating floods in Libya, and intense heatwaves — are becoming more frequent and severe.
Migration is increasingly necessary during climate disasters as homes, communities, and entire cities become unlivable. The harsh reality is that many immigrants and asylum seekers today are, in a sense, climate refugees.
A critical step the Biden administration can take to address this crisis is to designate and re-designate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to those who cannot safely return to their countries of origin. TPS provides a lifeline to people facing extreme circumstances, allowing them to live and work legally in the United States, free from the threat of deportation.
So, we are asking you to join us as we call for urgent action. Please, add your name to our petition asking Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Mayorkas and President Biden to designate and re-designate TPS to the following countries: Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Syria, and Pakistan.
Thank you for making your voice heard. Together, we can create a world where no one is left behind in the wake of climate disasters.
