Podyssey to discuss her recent paper that suggests that employers lack
leverage to negotiate lower health care prices.

High-Deductible Plan Enrollment By Sexual Orientation

In their article in the September issue of Health Affairs, Nathaniel
Tran and colleagues at Vanderbilt University examine high-deductible
health plan enrollment by sexual orientation and family income level
between 2013-18
.

Tran and colleagues find that "heterosexual and gay/lesbian adults in
families with incomes below 200 percent of poverty were least likely to
be enrolled in an HDHP compared with higher-income heterosexual and
gay/lesbian adults."

They also find that among adults enrolled in HDHPs, "sexual minority
adults experienced greater financial barriers than their heterosexual
peers," even after adjusting for socioeconomic characteristics and
health status.
