One of my top priorities in Congress is Michigan’s working families, but I realize I’ve never shared much about my own.
You see, part of the reason I was confident enough to run for public office in 2017 was because of my mom, Maria.
Throughout my life, my mom has always been on the frontlines, cheering me on every step of the way. She raised me to be fearless, strong, and a Democrat! Those are all traits that got me right where I am — MI-11’s Congresswoman.
Although mom set the example, I think I’ve inspired her, too. Just like me, my mom is a Michigan elected official!
She’s one of Michigan’s precinct delegates — ensuring that Democratic voters’ concerns are shared with the state party and leadership. Thanks to mom and her fellow precinct delegates, our democracy grows stronger.
Look, if there’s anyone that I would want to team up with to help Michiganders, it’s my mom. I’m so grateful that we get to work together to make a difference in the place we both call home.
But there’s only so much we can do with limited resources.
