Hoosiers Lead

If you need someone to lead your organization’s response to an important matter, put a Hoosier in charge. That’s exactly what President Donald Trump did this week, when he designated Indiana’s own Vice President Mike Pence to lead the federal government’s response to the coronavirus.

That’s because when it comes to leading on challenges in public health, Vice President Pence has experience here in Indiana. As our governor in 2014, he led when the nation’s first case of MERS emerged in Indiana. President Trump said it well – when it comes to setting a standard for public health, other states look to the Indiana model.

"[Indiana] has a great health care system there -- a system that a lot of the other states have really looked to, and changed their systems. They wanted to base it on the Indiana system,” said President Trump.

Today Vice President Pence is working with our nation’s top doctors and medical professionals (including fellow Hoosier, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar) to keep Americans safe from this disease.

There continue to be no confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Indiana. Please be assured that the immediate risk still remains low for anyone who doesn’t have any risk factors (like travel to affected areas), and that with President Trump and Vice President Pence leading the charge, the health and well-being of all Americans will remain the number one priority.

Governor Holcomb's Week That Was

Hoosiers & Sports

Hoosiers love sports, and Governor Holcomb is no exception! Sports are a huge part of the fabric of our state. On Thursday night, Governor Holcomb attended the Burris Laboratory School vs. Blackford County High School game, and on Friday he did a Q&A about health care with NFL great Archie Manning (Peyton and Eli's dad).

  • Everyone knows Governor Holcomb loves basketball, and he'll take any opportunity he has to catch a game! It doesn't matter if it's high school, college, the Pacers or the Fever -- he supports all levels of basketball in our state. Did you know Governor Holcomb played basketball at Pike High School and has made a basket in each of Indiana’s 92 counties?
  • Governor Holcomb also did a Q&A session with former NFL quarterback Archie Manning! The event was for Ascension St. Vincent, and gave Indiana business leaders an opportunity to learn more about solving health care challenges in 2020. Among the topics discussed were the importance of preventative care and healthy lifestyles.
Sports play a key part in the lives of Hoosiers, and Governor Holcomb is finding ways to tie important topics in to our love of sports!
