September 25, 2023

Dear Georgian,

As you may know, the federal government is approaching a shutdown if legislation to fund the government is not agreed upon by October 1st. I do not support a government shutdown, as one will not benefit the American people. Unfortunately, last week, 210 Democrats chose to vote with 5 Republicans to prevent any appropriations bills from coming to the floor.

It is this cooperation between the Democratic Party and these 5 Republicans that leads me to believe the government will shut down even though well over 90% of Republicans want to keep the government open, provided the Democrats would agree to border security initiatives within the proposed continuing resolution.

I will continue to support responsible spending and border security as Congress negotiates the federal budget.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Keep reading for the full update.

Sincerely,

Congressman Austin Scott
