AG Jeff Landry ([link removed]) is fighting and winning for Louisiana!

                                                                                           Issue 18| August 2023

Attorney General Jeff Landry led the LADOJ through a great month of July. From protecting our people to serving justice, our office continues fighting and winning for Louisiana. Below are some highlights from the successful month.

([link removed])

We obtained a conviction of John Mack ([link removed]) on one count of aggravated rape, one count of attempted aggravated rape, three counts of sexual battery of child, and two counts of indecent behavior with child. The team from our office worked diligently to get this verdict, especially Assistant Attorneys General Daniel Smart and Payal Patel.

In an interview with Fox News ([link removed]), AG Jeff Landry explained how the vast and sprawling government censorship enterprise involving social media should concern all Americans.

On Independence Day, a Federal Judge prohibited key Biden officials from threatening, pressuring, or inducing social media companies to suppress any content containing protected free speech on their platforms – delivering a major victory ([link removed]) for AG Jeff Landry, his Solicitor General Liz Murrill ([link removed]), and their counterparts from Missouri who are leading a legal team on behalf of the states and five private plaintiffs who filed the lawsuit in May 2022.

SG Liz Murrill spoke with The Daily Signal ([link removed]) about the “misinformation or disinformation censorship complex” and criticized media outlets for suggesting that this censorship apparatus is a good thing.

The Louisiana Board of Elementary and Second Education recently announced its support for a waiver system that would ultimately remove the LEAP test requirement. AG Jeff Landry explained his opposition to this plan in an op-ed you may read by clicking here ([link removed]).

AG Jeff Landry joined Dagen and Duffy ([link removed]) to explain the historic injunction he won against the Biden Administration, preventing the federal government from censoring the core political speech of ordinary Americans on social media.

We obtained a conviction of the recently re-elected Chief of Police for for the Village of Grayson ([link removed]) on Malfeasance in Office, Theft (Felony), and Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substances. The Caldwell Parish jury’s verdict was the culmination of a great prosecution by Assistant Attorneys General Darwin Miller and Michelle Thompson.

AG Jeff Landry urged the Pardon Board to follow the administrative rules while considering death row clemency pleas ([link removed]). In a four-page legal opinion, the Attorney General answered the Louisiana Board of Pardons and Parole ([link removed]) on whether it can take up clemency requests filed more than a year after a judge has issued an appeal ruling in capital cases.

After AG Jeff Landry declared that "protecting innocence means speaking up ([link removed]),"

the Legislature overrode Governor John Bel Edwards’ veto ([link removed]) of HB 648 - a measure

to protect children from harmful gender reassignment surgeries.

Stories similar to those told in the blockbuster film Sound of Freedom are not limited to the children of South America or young women being trafficked across Europe as portrayed in the movie Taken. Instead, a child may be exploited within your Parish or even a home in your neighborhood. Learn about how our LBI is fighting these despicable crimes each and every day by clicking here ([link removed]) to read AG Jeff Landry's "Hearing the Sound of Freedom in Louisiana" op-ed.

accomplishments our office achieved last month. We are grateful and honored to serve you.
