My parents fled communist North Korea in
search of a better life for our family. When I was 19, my mom, my younger sister, and I were blessed enough to immigrate to the United States of
America.
Our family owned and operated a small business while I attended college. It was hard work, but I learned so much about
determination and work ethic. But, I watched my single, non-English-speaking mother struggle with tedious government processes. I recognized our
government was failing those who needed it the most.
That’s when I decided I wanted a job that serves the American
people.
I knew then that I wanted to do more to help, so I ran for the California State Board of
Equalization and then, the Orange County Board of Supervisors. I was the highest-ranking Korean-American elected official in the
country.
I gave almost
$400 million back to California taxpayers and fought for our most vulnerable and under-served communities.
I am living proof that the American Dream is alive and well. America is the land of hope and prosperity, and I wholeheartedly
believe that we live in the greatest country in the world.
